When your kitchen feels dark, dated, and disconnected from the rest of your home, it can impact your entire living experience. That’s what our client, the Pollard family, faced before contacting Team Renovate.

They didn’t just want a simple refresh, they wanted a complete transformation. Here’s how we took their outdated kitchen and created an open, modern, light-filled centerpiece for their home in Rancho Bernardo.

The Challenge | Outdated, Confined, and Lacking Natural Light

Before the remodel, the Pollard kitchen was weighed down by:

  • Old-fashioned tile countertops with dark grout that was hard to clean.

  • Heavy oak cabinetry that made the room feel small and closed off.

  • A drop ceiling with fluorescent lighting that cast a yellowish tone.

  • An awkward layout that didn’t connect well with the dining or outdoor spaces.

The kitchen lacked the natural light, modern style, and functional flow the family wanted for cooking, gathering, and entertaining.

Our Solution | A Complete Relocation and Reimagining

Rather than simply updating the existing kitchen, we proposed a bold solution: relocate the kitchen to a better area of the home and redesign it from the ground up.

Our plan included:

  • Moving the kitchen to an open-concept space with better light and backyard views.

  • Installing custom white shaker cabinetry and white quartz countertops for a clean, timeless look.

  • Adding a large kitchen island with contrasting cabinetry, offering extra prep space, seating for five, and a modern design focal point.

  • Replacing old tile floors with large-format polished tile throughout for an elegant, cohesive feel.

  • Installing new sliding glass doors and windows to bring in abundant natural light.

  • Upgrading all lighting with recessed lights, stylish pendants, and LED under-cabinet lighting.

  • Switching to stainless steel appliances for a sleek, contemporary finish.

The Renovation Details | From Closed-Off to Showstopping

This was a full remodel down to the studs, with major changes that included:

  • Kitchen relocation for a new layout and better connection to living spaces.

  • Removal of the drop ceiling and installation of modern recessed lighting and pendants.

  • Custom cabinetry installation with a two-tone design (white perimeter, contrasting island).

  • Seamless white quartz countertops and a full diamond-patterned backsplash.

  • New island with seating to encourage gathering and better space flow.

  • Stainless steel appliance installation for modern function and style.

  • Large sliding doors and windows to maximize indoor-outdoor connection.

  • Luxury flooring upgrade for a polished, high-end finish throughout.

Project Highlights | Quick Facts

  • Location: Rancho Bernardo, San Diego, CA

  • Scope: Full kitchen relocation and remodel

The Result | A Modern, Light-Filled Centerpiece

Today, the Pollard family's kitchen feels like the true heart of the home, bright, welcoming, and fully connected to the living and outdoor spaces. With a beautiful island, luxury finishes, and a clean, modern aesthetic, this remodel delivers both stunning looks and practical everyday comfort.

It’s a night-and-day difference, and it shows what’s possible with a bold vision and expert craftsmanship.
