Case Study: A Sage Brush Kitchen Remodel in San Diego
A Fresh Look for a Sage Brush Kitchen
It’s amazing how much a kitchen can define the entire feel of a home. For this family in San Diego’s Sage Brush community, their kitchen felt like a barrier—it was dated, dark, and closed off from the rest of the living space. They came to us with a vision for a complete transformation, and we were excited to help them create a bright, modern, and welcoming heart for their home.
The Challenge
The primary challenge was the kitchen's outdated and closed-off design. The original honey-oak cabinets and white tile countertops made the space feel dark and cramped. A non-load-bearing wall separated the kitchen from the dining and living areas, which made the layout feel compartmentalized and wasn't suitable for a family that loves to entertain and connect.
The Solution
Our design-build team worked closely with the homeowners to reimagine the space entirely. The first step was to remove the dividing wall, which immediately created an open-concept floor plan that felt brighter and more expansive.
From there, we focused on a complete aesthetic overhaul. We designed a custom kitchen featuring a sophisticated two-tone cabinet scheme. We used a soft, elegant sage green for the main cabinets—a nod to the home's location—and a warm, natural wood finish for the new, oversized island. This created a stunning focal point and added a layer of custom-built luxury.
To complete the modern farmhouse look, we installed light-colored quartz countertops, a classic white subway tile backsplash, a new farmhouse sink, and elegant gold hardware. Finally, we updated the lighting with modern recessed fixtures to ensure the new space was as bright and inviting as possible.
